DRAKE
Crowd Pleaser
Adrienne A. Gadling

You hate to admit it, but you’ve Googled Drake’s name at least once. And through your research you found that the Toronto native got his big break by playing Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian version of 90210, Degrassi: The Next Generation. Now, as he prepares to release his official debut album, Thank Me Later, on Lil Wayne’s Young Money Records, he doesn’t feel pressured to top the unbelievable success he’s already accomplished pre-record deal.

“I’m going to let it happen organically. I’m not really too concerned with what I have to top or match. I know it’s never going to be a way for me to replicate my last album. [That is] a moment in my career. No album will feel like this ever again,” says the 23-year-old. “I remember rocking shows for like 700 people, people were screaming and singing every word back to me. It was like a bond forcing through the room because I was a new artist breaking out as a star. Nothing is going to ever feel like that again, I just hope I can [always] create a new feeling.” And based on his already impressive string of No. 1 hits like “Best I Ever Had,” “Successful” and “Every Girl,” awards and nominations (BET, MOBO, MTV and Soul Train all showed him love)—we believe he can.
