Set approximately 100 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, the Disney+ series explores a period when the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic appeared to be thriving. That peace is disrupted when a mysterious series of crimes draws a respected Jedi Master into a dangerous investigation connected to his past.
At the center of the mystery is Stenberg, who takes on the challenging dual roles of twin sisters Osha and Mae Aniseya. Although they share the same face and a painful history, the sisters have grown into dramatically different women. Osha is a former Jedi Padawan attempting to build a new life as a spacecraft mechanic, while Mae is a determined warrior pursuing vengeance against members of the Jedi Order.
Stenberg distinguishes the twins through subtle changes in posture, expression, voice and emotional rhythm. Osha carries uncertainty and unresolved trauma, while Mae moves with focus, anger and purpose. The contrast allows Stenberg to display an impressive range while grounding the series’ larger conflicts in a deeply personal family story.
Created by Leslye Headland, The Acolyte also stars Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, Charlie Barnett and Rebecca Henderson.
