WNBA Connecticut Sun center Brittney Griner filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner, in Fulton County on Thursday. Court records obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution state the marriage is irretrievably broken and list July 24 as the date of separation.

Brittney is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their son. She is also requesting an equitable division of marital assets and wants to keep any property she owned before the marriage or inherited.
Griner’s attorney, Randall Kessler, said the family hopes to resolve things privately and declined further comment. Cherelle has not addressed the divorce publicly.
The 10x All-Star has been sidelined since July 19 with a left knee injury for the Connecticut Sun, and the team has not set a return date.
